Fyzikálna chémia
The graduates of the PhD studies in Physical Chemistry represent the base for the research laboratories of universities and institutes of the Academy of Sciences of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. They successfully apply for positions of university teachers and researchers. Graduates of the PhD programme in Physical Chemistry have the theoretical and experimental knowledge for independent scientific work in the field of spectroscopic methods, heterogeneous catalysis, electrochemical deposition processes of coatings, development of new methods, functional materials, structural analysis, chromatography, surface chemistry, and others. They can describe the relevant processes mathematically and use this apparatus to model the processes. They can carry out professional research work in chemical, physical, biological and environmental laboratories. Such training enables them to understand the interdisciplinary links between disciplines and to apply knowledge from one discipline to the problems of another. Graduates will have knowledge of classical and advanced thermodynamics, kinetics and catalysis, biophysical chemistry, physical nanotechnology, spectroscopy, and will be proficient in modern, especially instrumental, physical and analytical chemistry. The aim is to produce a graduate in physical chemistry with broad theoretical knowledge and experimental skills in physical chemistry, based on the necessary foundation of other chemical and other natural science disciplines taught at the Faculty of Science.
The graduate will acquire the necessary knowledge in the field of theory and methodology of experiments, which will prepare him/her to solve optimization of operational but also development problems of physical-chemical and analytical-chemical nature. It will find application in basic and applied chemically oriented research, in operational as well as development laboratories of the most diverse institutions, in various government departments, in the business sector, in quality management, in laboratory accreditation or attestation of various types of products. The profile of the graduate predisposes him to research laboratories.
