History and Theory of Arts and Architecture
The graduate knows the scientific methods of art history research, critically orientates himself in the current state of research in the field, can publicly present and defend his own findings at international scientific forums and conferences. He/she is prepared to obtain and process scientific grants, to publish the results of research in the form of studies and scientific monographs. Able to participate in broader inter and multidisciplinary teams. He/she has the prerequisites to grow professionally, to increase his/her qualifications within the framework of individual scientific and scientific-pedagogical degrees. The graduate of the History and Theory of Art and Architecture works scientifically in the field of history of art and culture. He/she masters the conceptual and categorical apparatus of the field and has mastered historical and current art historical methods. He is able to present the results of his own research in a dissertation that meets the content and formal criteria of a scientific monograph. In addition to possessing categorical and methodological apparatus, the graduate of the History and Theory of Art and Architecture demonstrates the ability to integrate art historical research into broader historical and cultural contexts and is able to creatively find connections with related disciplines such as aesthetics, philosophy of art, history and archaeology. His skills include expert erudition in the visual codes of culture. He is guided to scientific correctness, honesty, independence as well as responsibility in scholarly research.
Prospects of graduates
The breadth and depth of the acquired knowledge enable him to work as an independent researcher in scientific institutes, galleries and museums, as well as in other cultural institutions. He is also ready to transfer the acquired knowledge in the pedagogical process at the faculties of philosophy or other universities of arts, arts and humanities.

The selection procedure is based on the previous study results, the professional examination and the professional interview on the applied dissertation topic, taking into account the results of the previous education. Applications from graduates of the study programme or related study programmes will be accepted. The admissions committee decides on the acceptance of the application.

FF TU offers its students accommodation, the services of the university library, departmental libraries, a range of specialised classrooms and departments such as video presentation classrooms, multimedia classrooms, a multifunctional auditorium, a PhD students' office, a Communication Centre, a central IT system, a Modular Academic Information System, a University Pastoral Centre, psychological counselling services, a university canteen, and a number of other support services.
Conditions for international students
Applicants who have completed a lower level of studies abroad shall submit proof of equivalence of studies at secondary schools abroad pursuant to Act No.422/2015 Coll. on the recognition of documents on education and on the recognition of professional qualifications and on the amendment and supplementation of certain acts.

The Faculty of Arts of the University of Trnava in Trnava (hereinafter referred to as TU) plans to admit approximately 5 students to doctoral studies in the academic year 2025/2026, depending on the amount of allocated budget and the fulfilment of basic and other admission conditions.
The appropriate type of application form must be used for the study.
The basic condition for admission to doctoral studies (PhD. degree) is the completion of the second cycle of higher education.
The Faculty of Philosophy of TU reserves the right to make changes and updates in order to improve the quality of the admission procedure, in accordance with Section 57 (5) of Act No. 131/2002 Coll. on higher education as amended by later regulations.
Applicants should submit a completed application form to the address of the Faculty's seat: Faculty of Arts, University of Trnava, Hornopotočná 23, 918 43 Trnava. Candidates who have completed lower degree studies before the school. 2024/2025, they will send an application form, a diploma and a diploma from the Master's degree. Candidates who will graduate from lower secondary school in 2024 will send their application form together with a current certificate of attendance. Applicants who are taking the entrance examination will present the officially certified documents (diploma and M.A. certificate) in person at the presentation on the day of the entrance examination.

The admission procedure for a candidate begins on the day of receipt of his/her written application. For this reason, an applicant who submits his/her application electronically is obliged to submit it in written form, duly documented (proof of payment of the admission fee, certified M.Sc. diploma,...).
Applicants who will be admitted on the basis of a selection procedure will send certified copies of their certificates within two days after successful completion of the state examination.
The faculty does not require confirmation of the applicant's medical condition. If it is necessary to take a disability into account in the admission examination process, the applicant must attach a certificate of disability and the recommended form of examination to the application form.
Applicants may also submit multiple applications to the College. For each study programme it is necessary to submit a new application and pay the fee of 40,- € again.
Applicants who have completed a lower degree abroad shall submit nostrified documents of education in accordance with the provisions of Decree No. 422/2015 Coll. A receipt for the payment of the admission fee (in the amount of € 40.-) must be affixed to the 3rd page of the application form. In case of non-attendance at the entrance examination, the fee is not refundable. The Admissions Committee decides on the points required for admission.
