Parts and Mechanisms of Machines

The graduate of the study programme "Parts and Mechanisms of Machines" will acquire the necessary knowledge of professional subjects such as solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermomechanics, design II - parts of machines, elasticity and strength, design methodology, CAD systems, simultaneous design and optimization, finite element method, bionics and innovation of technical systems, etc. in the engineering degree of professional studies,
In connection with this base, the graduate in the third stage of studies will deepen his/her knowledge of applied scientific disciplines focused on design, construction, modelling and optimization of machine parts and mechanisms. The doctoral degree also focuses on research, development and innovation, as well as on the further development of methods and technologies used today in the research, development, innovation and design of machine parts and mechanisms and their prototypes. Students have the opportunity to choose from a selection of elective courses offered to further their professional focus in the area of research, aimed at developing methods, procedures and knowledge of 3D modelling and virtual model creation, simulation, optimisation and analysis using the finite element method, innovation, prototyping using rapid technologies and computational and simulation methods for structural and dynamic analysis and optimisation of machine parts and mechanisms.

Prospects of graduates

The graduate of the study programme "Parts and Mechanisms of Machines" gains at the engineer level of specialised study the necessary knowledge from special subjects such mechanics of solid bodies, mechanics of liquids, thermo mechanics, constructing II - part of machines, flexibility and firmness, methodology of constructing, CAD systems, simultaneous constructing and optimisation, method of finite elements, etc. that together with other constructionally and technologically oriented subjects form a theoretical and professional base for the study within the framework of the study programme "Construction of Machines and Equipments and other similar ones.

Building on this base the graduate at the third level of the study shall extend the knowledge from applied science disciplines focused on designing and constructing of parts and mechanisms of machines. Within the framework of the doctorate level study attention is also paid to research, development and further development of methods, equipments and technologies that are currently used in research, development and construction of parts of machines and mechanisms and their prototypes. The students have the possibility based on selection from the offered optional subjects for advance profilation of their professional specialisation in research, focused on the development of methods, procedures and knowledge from 3D modeling and creation of virtual models, simulation, optimisation and analysis with the use of the method of finite elements, innovations, computer and simulation methods for structural and dynamic analysis and optimisation of the parts and mechanisms of machines.

Conditions of admission

Basic condition of admission
The basic condition of admission to doctoral studies (third degree study programme) is the acquisition of a university degree of the second degree (Act on Higher Education No.131/2002 Coll., as amended). In the case of a foreign applicant or a student who has completed his/her studies abroad, he/she shall submit with his/her application for university studies, no later than at the time of enrolment, a decision on the recognition of the document on the completion of the second degree by the relevant institution in the Slovak Republic, or shall apply to UNIZA for the recognition of the document on the education.

Other conditions of admission

1. No entrance examination
All applicants for studies go through a selection procedure.

2. Selection procedure
The selection procedure for doctoral studies takes place in the form of an interview with each applicant separately before the admissions committee.

Rules of the selection procedure
The content of the interview is a part mapping the applicant's overview in the professional field related to the selected topic of doctoral studies and another part, aimed at verifying knowledge of foreign languages and prerequisites for independent scientific work. The ranking of the candidates is done by the committee in a secret ballot.

Conditions for international students

For foreign applicants, the admission conditions apply as for applicants from the Slovak Republic.
Foreign students who study in a language other than the state language pay tuition fees according to the conditions specified in Section 92 (8) of the Higher Education Act. The tuition fee is set by a UNIZA directive and published for the relevant academic year on the University's website. Foreign students studying in the Slovak language do not pay tuition fees. Applicants from the Czech Republic may use the form valid in the Czech Republic to apply for studies. Applicants who do not have an active knowledge of Slovak or Czech are required to successfully complete language training (possibility to take it at UNIZA). For foreign applicants admitted on the basis of interstate agreements, bilateral treaties or for scholarship holders of the Government of the Slovak Republic, the conditions specified in the relevant documents apply.
