Free Fine Art

Master's studies at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences focus on the acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge based on the current state of science and art and on the development of skills, their creative application in the exercise of a profession or in the continuation of higher education according to the doctoral study programme. FVU conducts the Master's degree programme in Arts only in the full-time form of study. The standard length of study at the Faculty of Arts for the second degree programme is two academic years. The Master's degree is conducted in a credit system and the student must take compulsory, obligatory and elective courses according to the recommended study plan of the study programme.In one semester, the student should optimally take enough courses to reach 30 credits. Over the entire course of study, the student must accumulate a minimum of 120 credits, which is a condition for the proper completion of the Master's degree. The profile courses make an essential contribution to the fulfilment of the graduate profile of the study programme. The first year of the study programme has a study and research character,to which the student enters on the basis of a successful admission procedure with his/her project/vision. He/she carries it out in one of the four PLATFORUMs under the guidance of three tutors selected by him/her. In the second year, he/she works on a two-semester thesis. The studies are completed by a state examination and by fulfilling all the prescribed requirements in the study programme. The state examination in the master's study programme is the defence of the thesis.



Prospects of graduates

A graduate of the Master's degree programme in Liberal Arts acquires the professional competence to practice the profession of a visual artist at the level of Master of Arts. He/she is prepared creatively and technologically to work independently in the field of visual arts within the framework of free art production. Is able to work in the field of informal art education. The graduate of the Master's degree may, after successful completion of the entrance examinations, continue his/her studies at the doctoral level in a follow-up study programme.

Conditions of admission

The basic condition for admission to the study programme of the 2nd degree is a university education of the 1st degree in the field of study Art - Fine Arts or in a related field of the corresponding focus and successful completion of the admission interview. In the event of an earlier admission interview date prior to the completion of the 1st degree programme, the applicant will be admitted to the Master's degree programme only conditionally. Definitive admission to the study programme is conditional upon successful completion of the first cycle study programme. Proof of completion of the first cycle programme must be submitted within ten days of completion, but no later than the deadline for enrolment. Applications for admission to the Master's degree programme must be made on the prescribed form, specifying the studio in which the student is applying for the Master's degree.

The entrance examination shall consist of the following parts:
o The applicant's portfolio in hard copy and electronic form, which should include:
- the most significant works of the applicant (min.10
- short Curriculum Vitae,
- list of artistic activities (exhibitions, workshops, symposia, published texts...). 3 standard pages/5400 characters, including spaces and punctuation, in which he/she defines:
- the basic frameworks of the Master's research at the vision stage, where he/she formulates the fields and the subject of interest of his/her artistic research,
- the area in the Master's degree on which he/she wants to carry out his/her research in the context of one of the four platforms of the study programme.
o Discussion between the members of the committee and the Master's candidate in the form of a discussion, in which the candidate will present:
- himself and his work through a visual presentation/portfolio in electronic form,
- the Master's project, presenting his vision and area of research in the context of one of the four platforms he has chosen.



Additional information

The admission procedure enables an applicant who proves that he/she meets the specified admission requirements to become a student of the relevant study programme at the Faculty of Physical Education. The basic condition for admission to a second-degree programme of study pursuant to Section 53(1) is a first-degree university degree. An applicant who fails to prove fulfilment of the basic admission requirements at the time of verification of fulfilment of the admission requirements may be admitted conditionally. Definitive admission is conditional on successful completion of the first cycle study programme. Proof of completion of the first cycle programme must be submitted within ten days of completion, but at the latest by the deadline for enrolment. The Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts (hereinafter referred to as FVU AU) sets additional conditions for admission to the second cycle programme in order to ensure that applicants with the necessary abilities and aptitudes are admitted to the programme. FVU AU verifies that the conditions are met by an entrance examination, which is designed as part of the verification of aptitude for studies. The conditions set and the way in which they are verified enable the selection of applicants who demonstrate the highest level of aptitude for studies. At the request of an applicant with special needs, the form of the admission test and the way in which it is to be conducted shall be determined, taking into account his or her specific needs, on the basis of an assessment of his or her specific needs (§ 100(9)(b)). The admission procedure shall be conducted by attendance. Where distance learning is in progress at the time of the admission procedure, the admission procedure may also be conducted by distance learning. Due to the application of the same assessment criteria for all applicants for studies at the AU Faculty of Physical Education, it is not possible to set an alternative date for the admission procedure. Master's studies are only conducted in the form of full-time studies, external form is not possible. The admission procedure for applicants to the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica begins with the completion of the application form and its subsequent submission to the faculty by the specified deadline. Knowledge of the Slovak language is required for the study.
