Performing Arts
Study in the Doctoral Program in Musical Arts is focused on the individual development of talent and creativity in the field of musical interpretation and composition, which is represented by a work of art of the highest complexity. The supporting professional topics of the core knowledge of the doctoral study programme are linked to the specifics of the study programme Musical Arts.
The study part of the doctoral student's study programme consists mainly of lectures, seminars, individual study of specialist literature and individual artistic training necessary in terms of the focus of the dissertation and artistic performance. The studies are carried out under the supervision of a supervisor in accordance with the study schedule and culminate in a dissertation examination and a dissertation artistic performance.

The study programme Musical Arts - External Form of Study has the following profile:
choir conducting; playing keyboard instruments; string instruments; wind instruments; guitar; dulcimer; vocal performance; composition.
The length of the study of the doctoral programme in the external form is 4 academic years. The study is completed with a dissertation examination and a dissertation artistic performance. The graduate receives the title "Doctor of Arts" (ArtD.), which is indicated after the name.
Prospects of graduates
- By graduating from the study programme Musical Art, the graduate acquires a systematic, coherent and comprehensive set of competences in the specialised field of musical art, but above all, he/she comes to know and understand the relationships within the given field and interdisciplinary relationships within related artistic fields. A deeper understanding of the broader contexts, wide-ranging theories, sophisticated methods and practices in the arts and sciences is in line with modern trends at a level commensurate with international criteria. He is able to apply all the acquired knowledge practically in his specialisation with a significant integration of the acquired knowledge from other professional musical fields. The graduate will acquire comprehensive knowledge, skills and artistic competences that can be used in his/her valuable artistic practice, while being implementable in different musical fields, and in relation to the societal nature of the artistic environment to achieve success both nationally and transnationally.
- A graduate of the Doctoral Program in Musical Arts will find employment as:
- Concert artist, opera soloist or first soloist in both domestic and international professional arts settings,
- Professional composer,
- Chamber musician in professional arts ensembles, ensembles in both domestic and international professional artistic environments,
- choral conductor,
- university teacher in the field of music and dance,
- expert in professional artistic councils, commissions, advisory bodies.

A candidate may enter the doctoral studies after completing the Master's degree in the field of study Arts - Music, awarding the degree of Mgr.art. M.A. degree in Arts and successful completion of the entrance examination.

A candidate for doctoral studies is required to submit:
- An artistic portfolio of the applicant, including the results of previous performance practice (list of concerts, recordings on CD and other media, studies abroad, participation in domestic and foreign competitions, awards received and evidence of public response to the interpretation as criticism, reviews).
- Artistic project - a proposal of your dissertation, which includes the dramaturgy of a representative recital in the range of 45 - 100 minutes. The specific dramaturgy and scope of the recital for practical performance will be approved by the Admissions Committee.

In the application form for doctoral studies, the applicant shall indicate:
a/ the selected study programme and the selected dissertation topic,
b/ the selected form of doctoral studies (full-time/external)
Conditions for international students
For international applicants, the same conditions for online application as above apply. The documents of completed studies must be translated into Slovak and certified.
Foreigners applying to study in an accredited study programme are recommended to acquire such knowledge of the Slovak language that fluent communication is possible during their studies at the faculty. It is also possible to use the Czech language while studying at the faculty.
It is necessary to submit proof of completion of language training at the UK Bratislava Institute of Linguistics or a similar professional language institution (except for foreign Slovaks and applicants from the Czech Republic).

The Dean of the FMU AU will publish the application form no later than two months before the last day for the submission of applications for doctoral studies:
- the study programme in which the admission procedure will take place in a given academic year,
- the topics of dissertations, for each of the announced topics a supervisor is appointed,
- the deadline for submission of applications,
- the date of entrance examinations (contained in the schedule of the given academic year),
- the conditions for admission to the study,
- the form and framework content of the entrance examinations,
- the method of evaluation of the results of the entrance examinations.
The audition includes an examination:
- from the orientation of the problems of musical art
- from knowledge of music theory and music history
- knowledge of the conceptual context of the future dissertation
- knowledge of at least one world language
