Graduates of the Applied Economics engineering study programme are proficient in empirical economics and working with data and statistics, which gives them a significant competitive advantage in the market, and they are able to apply themselves in several fields. However, they most often work as economic analysts and specialists in both the public and private sectors, including in management roles, in regional, national and international settings. In the private sector and non-profit organisations, they are employed in positions that require comprehensive economic knowledge and analytical skills. Typical positions in the private sector include positions in analytical teams of large firms (e.g. business analyst, data manager, economic consultant). In the public sector, they work in senior positions dealing with economic analysis and forecasting, public policy analysis and formulation, financial analysis, etc. Graduates have general and specialist knowledge of micro- and macro-economics, data analysis and evaluation of policies and strategic decisions, which they can apply in specialised areas such as industrial economics, behavioural economics, labour market economics, urban and regional economics, or economic development. Can apply knowledge to evaluate and innovatively solve problems in broader sectoral, regional, national and international contexts. Can observe, critically sort and implement the latest knowledge, apply economic and social principles as well as principles of ethical behaviour in academic and work environments, and is able to undertake continuous learning and constructive forms of critique. The graduate is able to integrate knowledge from different fields and is able to formulate judgements even in a limited information and changing dynamic environment. In his/her work, the graduate is able to apply advanced knowledge and skills in economics, econometrics, statistics and economic analysis and forecasting to assess the impact of events, measures and decisions, to analyse efficiency and productivity, or complex structural relationships and spatial aspects. Can apply advanced economic research methods to analyse cross-sectional, spatial and panel data and time series, using modern software. The graduate can present and defend his/her arguments at a professional level to professional and public audiences. He/she is able to manage work groups in a complex environment that requires new approaches and critical thinking, takes responsibility for the work of the whole group and can evaluate the achievement of performance indicators not only of analytical teams. The graduate is internationally employable, able to work in a multicultural environment. The graduate of the study programme can continue his/her doctoral studies in a related study programme.

The study programme corresponds to comparable study programmes abroad and is conducted in English as well, as its ambition is to develop international cooperation with partner universities with a view to double diplomas. Its aim is to provide an attractive education for foreign students, to support the internationalisation of the NHF EUBA, to involve foreign professors in teaching and to provide an attractive education in the CEE region.
